Have so enjoyed all your writings this year. I’m currently reading Ruskin Park, your podcast is excellent ( I have MS and there are many parallels) and Sophie’s journey and your patience and care ( alongside the Prof and SociableDog) have been remarkable. Merry Christmas to you all ( including the porridge monster!)
Although I was aware of your role when you were at the BBC and read your comments on Twitter it has only been this year through the four areas you've discussed that I've followed you closely. I have learned so much especially about Parkinsons and have so enjoyed you sharing your family life with The Porridge Monster, The Princess and Sophie in particular. I found Ruskin Park very moving and will reread it. Sending you very best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
Thank you very much for your newsletters and your insights this year Rory. My dad has Parkinson’s and your newsletter has been the single best source of information (alongside the wonderful Podcast). I also really enjoy your more personal posts and reflections. Thank you for all that you do.
Hi Rory, I read Ruskin Park and loved it, my partner (non-reader) also got regular updates as they kept asking ‘what’s happened to the BBC lady now then?’. I enjoy history books and this was very modern in comparison to my usual choices, but actually I am now looking forward to exploring more post-WWII social history and the role of women. I also probably wouldn’t have read it had it not been for Sophie, I check twitter every day for the latest updates and I think you and the prof are great :) have a wonderful Christmas.
First thing to say is the immense change in Sophie's demeanour and body language over the year. We have had a succession of rescue dogs over nearly 40 years (all UK-based adoptions) and I've been close to giving up on several occasions. As others no doubt keep saying, keep going, Rory.
We are avid followers of Movers & Shakers and applaud your individual and collective determination. We don't have any personal Parky connections but nevertheless draw great inspiration from each episode.
We attended your Wigtown gig since we live in the area and, of course, bought the book (beforehand to optimise the experience).
I sincerely hope that you regard 2023 as a personal landmark year despite the trials and tribulations. I had a major operation in August and will be eternally grateful to the DGRI staff who got me through the experience, even though there were some very annoying characteristics at times.
Dear Rory, I appreciate you opening up and sharing your life. I discovered you through #sophiefromromania. I eagerly purchased your book, and I delved into “Ruskin Park,” finishing the entire book in nearly one sitting. Your mother’s tenacity, as portrayed in the story, has left a lasting impression on me, and I’ve spent much time reflecting on it. Thank you for the valuable insights this year. Wishing you and your family joyous holidays!
Many thanks for this interesting, informative and helpful newsletter all year. I wish you a very happy christmas and all the very best for 2024. I will continue to follow your writing and particularly the Movers and Sakers Podcast which is extremely helpful to me.
Hi Rory, thank you for your observations. I too have enjoyed Ruskin Park this year and am now sharing it with friends. I’m keen on tech innovation so have always enjoyed your writing on that and who could not be moved by Sophie’s story - we love seeing her progress and her beautiful face, which is always a highlight! We hope you are continuing to make progress with the elbow physio (speaking from experience) and wish you and your family a joyful Christmas and all the best for 2024.
Hello Rory, I have bought your book for my daughter in law who works for the BBC. I thought the insight to the corporation was fascinating combined with a working mum. I also listen to Movers, my friends had developed Parkinson’s and the podcast helps us all. I have followed Sophie and your broken arm avidly. As you can tell I am a fan. Well done to you and your family. What a year.,
