Posting here has been a bit sparse over the last few weeks. That is partly because I have been away on holiday in beautiful Cardigan Bay in West Wales for two weeks but also because Movers and Shakers, the podcast I co-present about living with Parkinson’s, is having a short summer break
But now I’m back, I have triaged an email inbox absolutely heaving with Trump and crypto spam (never sign up just out of curiosity to a MAGA newsletter - it is like taking a cutting of Japanese knotweed just to try it out in your garden) and now I am ready for action.
A busy autumn lies ahead. The paperback edition of Sophie from Romania, my book about our rescue dog, comes out on September 11th with a new chapter updating readers on what happened to our extraordinarily shy dog in her second year with us. That means it is festival time - on August 30th I am speaking at the Islay Book Festival then on September 30th I am north of the border again at the Wigtown Book Festival. At both of these events I expect to talk about Parkinson’s as well as my superstar pooch and at Wigtown I also have the great pleasure of talking to Justin Currie, the Del Amitri singer songwriter who has written a book dealing with his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
On top of that, and recording six new episodes of Movers and Shakers in September, I. am embarking on a new project which will occupy me for at least a year. It is a book about the hunt for a cure for Parkinson’s, and the part that artificial intelligence might play in that quest.
As I interview a wide range of doctors and scientists for the book, you will get some early glimpses here of what I am learning. But this Substack will continue to roam far and wide across the health and technology landscape, occasionally wandering even further afield to mention a certain dog. Do let me know if you have ideas for stories which might be worth pursuing.
One more thing. I am considering doing an occasional Friday lunchtime Zoom Q&A for paying subscribers, sometimes with a guest, sometimes just with me. Let me know if you like the idea.
Quick question - for those of us that loved the first Sophie book and bought it on Audible any chance that we can get access to the new updated chapter? Would to hear it. Please. 🥰
I like the idea of an occasional Zoom, so yes, I'd sign up
