I was very moved by Paul Mayhew -Archer's wife regarding possible DBS. My late husband had this operation in 2017 performed by Mr. L. Zrinzo at Queen Square London. It was a great success as the tremor didn't return at all and he passed away in 2021 from prostate cancer.
His operation was a thalamotomy performed while awake. Interestingly, unlike Gillian he didn't have the implant in his chest .
Whilst listening to your amazing podcasts I have realised how much more help we both should have had during those 15years. Thank you for fighting for all those Parkinson sufferers.
Hi Rory, so so sorry to read this morning on the BBC Newspage about your accident, but more worryingly, to read of your experience of the NHS. I was in hospital for several months and echo all that you have said. But the question remains (as you hint at in the last paragraph of the BBC news report), what can (and will?) be done about it? How is change ever going to come about? It seems far more challenging than the proverbial 'turning round the tanker' illustration! I'd love to hear your further comments.
I wish you a speedy recovery. Sincerely, Chris Searle (Retired, West Sussex) 29.10.23.
For all of us in the final third of life, this is incredibly moving to read, and a wake-up call to be grateful for every healthy day we both have together. I fear that like Diane I am not a good emotional support dog, and being a bit younger than my husband I know that I am already impatient.
This was a wonderful and moving episode in what is a great series. In this case, any couple facing the infirmities and uncertainties of advancing years could relate to and learn from what we heard from you all. Thank you.
A really moving episode today. That cannot have been easy. I'm grateful to you for sharing your experiences and send best wishes and thanks.
