They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Well, maybe we are insane but we are taking Movers and Shakers back to the Middle Temple hall in London’s Inns of Court for a live evening of podcasting fun on January 29th at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale here and are bound to be snapped up fast.
Now, in September 2023 we chose the Middle Temple for our first live event and it did not go well. In my account of my year with a nervous rescue dog I describe what happened:
“At 7:45, we climb onto the stage to huge applause, five of us having clipped on lapel mics while I have grabbed the roaming microphone sensing it may be more robust. Then it all goes wrong. It rapidly becomes clear that most of the microphones just do not work - not only can the people at the back not hear us, but the lack of reliable audio is making the livestream useless.”
The end result was that around half of the audience had a great time, but the rest were understandably disgruntled about the poor experience we gave them. And the next day when we examined the recording which was supposed to be the basis of an episode of Movers and Shakers, it proved completely unusable.
So why are we going back? Well for one thing we have received a guarantee from the Middle Temple that the sound system will work this time, for another we are older and wiser and know that going on stage without having a proper sound check an hour beforehand was foolish in the extreme.
Still, we have learned a lot from the experience - and, in a way, that is going to be the theme of this new and hopefully much improved attempt at going live. We are calling it “Movers and Shakers - the Journey” and we intend to reflect on what we have learned about Parkinson’s, both as individuals and as a podcast team. As ever, there will be plenty of laughs, the odd moan and just a tiny bit of swearing. There will be special guests, and possibly live music, maybe even a karaoke singalong with our We Will Survive video. If you have ideas for what you would like from the live show please email us at feedback@moversandshakerspodcast.com.
From my humble experience as a sound company man & live event producer - it was doomed in Temple. Sound desk needed to be FOH - engineer didnt have a clue what was going on - in-house speakers not suitable for lavalier/lapel mics - two pairs of speakers on stands down the room would have given better coverage & handheld all round (not ideal). Hopefully goes better this time. M.
Wish I could be there. You should invite every neurologist in the area, others with Parkinson’s and friends and family
