Does exercise slow the progression of Parkinson’s Disease ? What do we know about whether the disease is hereditary? What part does nutrition play? Is there any convincing research about the efficacy of vitamin B1? And after so many false dawns are we any closer to finding a cure?
Just some of the questions which Michele Hu, Professor of Clinical Neuroscience and Consultant Neurologist tried to answer in a webinar last month. I was moderating the event and was hugely impressed by Michele’s communication skills and by the deep knowledge shown of their condition by my fellow “Parkies” who were asking the questions.
As I’ve written before, one of the upsides of Parkinson’s is discovering a very engaged community wanting to understand the science behind the disease , find out about research and clinical trials, and spread the word. So events like this webinar are really valuable - thanks to the National Institute for Health and Care Research for organising it.
Great discussion and many interesting points raised- Michele is my consultant and I’m on the Exenatide trial so a lot of the content felt very relevant. where do I find the evaluation form to fill to feedback as mentioned?
Thank you for the interesting discussion! However the information on B1 therapy was disappointing. It's obvious that this "expert" doesn't know anything about it! She didn't mention neurologist Dr Costantini or Daphne Bryan's book. So why can't she just say "l don't know"? Because for me, B1 therapy is a beacon of hope for dealing with this god damned disease! We need more research and more attention for PD. It's a vile incurable progressive disease which devastates many lives
