It’s here - the bonus edition of Movers and Shakers from the World Parkinson’s Congress in Barcelona. Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Paul Mayhew-Archer and I discuss what we’ve learned from this extraordinary event - the first WPC since Kyoto in 2019 - and meet some great people.
Neil Russell describes how he ran to the conference from the UK, Richelle Flanagan tells us about the best diet for people with Parkinson’s (only 200g of dairy a day and one glass of wine), Ray Dorsey, author of Ending Parkinson’s, tells us how that’s going (not well) and the exuberant Matt Eagles, a “Parky” for nearly 50 years, explains why staying positive is the best way of living with the condition.
Sadly, Jeremy P, Mark M, and Nick the Judge (as he’s known at the Royal Courts of Justice) couldn’t join us in Barcelona but the whole team will be back in September for our second series. Join us then and in the meantime enjoy this Barcelona bonus and tell us what you think at feedback@moversandshakerspodcast.com
Great to get your reports from Barcelona and to hear from fantastic people (as well as you three!). A message for Paul - nodding off in meetings is something that often affect PWPs more than other people. My sister and a friend were affected like that when they were still well enough to go to meetings. Richelle Flanagan sounds amazing; has she produced any books, or anything written down about nutrition? I so agree about timing! Everyone should read "Ending Parkinson's" - it's a great book. Was any of it recorded for YouTube or anything?
Rory, I've said it before, and I'm saying it again: I so appreciate all your work and communications on PD. Having a son with PD (diagnosed at the age of 44) is difficult. One doesn't like to fuss, but I so appreciate all the information and good ideas I get from your newsletter and I manage to drip feed them in to him bit by bit!
