Russell Foster is Professor of Circadian Neuroscience at Oxford University. His career has been dedicated to advancing the understanding of the internal body clock which is embedded, he says, "within every aspect of our biology'. For many, his key insights will be about sleep and that is at the centre of his new book Life Time:The New Science of the Body Clock and How It Can Revolutionise Your Sleep and Health.
Here is the video of my full conversation with the very engaging Professor Foster, to supplement the highlights article I have already posted. We cover his early breakthrough in understanding circadian systems - research met with a cry of “Bullshit!” at one conference - why disruption of those circadian rhythms is so damaging to your wellbeing, how much sleep we actually need and the clues that you are not getting enough, and why basic sleep education should be on the national curriculum.
